Taylor Momsen: Material Girl

Looks like Taylor Momsen has a brand new gig: Material Girl. The actress/musician was hand-picked by Madonna and her daughter Lola for to rep their brand new clothing line. (Named Material Girl, natch.) The collection will hit the racks at Macys’ beginning August 3rd. It’s a little bit rock n’ roll, a little bit flirty girl. Madge thinks Taylor’s unique sense of style fits right in with the look they’re going for. Here’s what Taylor had to say:

I’m psyched to be the face of Material Girl! For one, it’s Madonna so you know it’s gonna be cool and working with Madonna and Lola has been an unbelievable experience. They have such great sense of style, each brought their personal touch to the styling for the campaign. A Material Girl can be anyone you want, it’s all about making the style your own, that’s what is cool about it.

The video below has behind the scenes footage of Taylor, Madonna and, of course, the clothes. (Madonna was totally hands-on. She even helped style the shoot…and played photographer!) What do you guys think? Will you be checking out the line at Macy’s?

Get the Material Girl Momsen widget and many other great free widgets at Widgetbox!
Tips For Buying Vintage

Written By Annie Creamcheese

By Annie Creamcheese

Wearing vintage clothes has always been a part of my life. I especially love the thrill of the hunt and finding a unique one of kind piece. The trick is knowing how to incorporate vintage into your contemporary closet. If the clothes seem a bit overwhelming, you can always start with vintage Jewelry, one of my personal favorites. Vintage Jewelry will always compliment any modern contemporary outfit. There really are no rules, you can go with one bold statement piece or you can pile on as much as you’d like!

When shopping for vintage jewelry, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Make sure you ask any and all questions; What decade is the piece from? What types of metal is piece made of ? Is the piece signed by a known designer?
2. Thoroughly check the quality and condition of the piece; Does the piece show any wear? Is it losing some of it’s luster? Are all the hardware functioning properly?
3. When choosing a necklace, ask yourself if you have the appropriate dress/blouse that will compliment the piece and if it’s a bold statement piece, then be sure to pair it with a simple silhouette so that it will stand out.
4. When choosing a ring or bracelet, its best to choose something that is comfortable first, and fashionable later. Comfort always reigns supreme in my book.
5. GOLD versus SILVER. Personally, I love gold-toned jewelry and both will never go out of style. Always try to buy a broad range of both colors to make sure you will always have the right piece to go with any outfit and to stay current with trends.

If you have never shopped for Vintage clothing, here are a few tips that will make your hunt a little less daunting:

1. When you go vintage shopping, pre-plan your day. Research local vintage stores and call ahead to ask about price range, store hours and directions. Allow yourself at least two hours to try on different styles and different decades so you can find the best fitting piece that will suit your taste, personality, and body type.
2. Bring a shopping buddy and try to go during the week to avoid crowds and long lines at the fitting room.
3. Have an open mind and try on EVERYTHING. In my experience so many women have fallen in love with dresses they “would have never picked”.
4. Check and make sure the dress/garment is in good condition. Look for any stains, piling, strong odor, missing buttons or broken zippers. When buying Vintage, garments will always have some type of wear but make sure the piece is wearable and the main construction is intact.
5. If you are buying your very first vintage dress, try a basic Little Black Dress. Search for the right fit, and pair with modern jewelry and shoes. Let the dress speak for itself.

<ins>About Annie Creamcheese</ins>

Annie Lee, of ANNIE CREAMCHEESE, has been a vintage and fashion junkie from an early age. Voted ‘Best Dressed’ of her senior class in high school, she has managed to parlay her love of mixing vintage clothing with today’s contemporary style into a lucrative and rewarding career. After seven years in the beauty industry, pampering the rich and famous, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of opening and operating a vintage clothing boutique. The idea for ANNIE CREAMCHEESE was born between Garrett and Annie one night while watching Julia Roberts traverse down the red carpet in a vintage Valentino gown. Annie has had a long obsession with vintage clothing and bemoaned the lack of a quality vintage clothing store in the DC Metro area. With some planning and a six month long shopping spree, ANNIE CREAMCHEESE was born. Starting out on eBay, their website, flea markets, the idea has spawned two successful stores with more hopefully to follow.

The flagship store is located in Washington D.C’s iconic Georgetown neighborhood, while the Las Vegas location can be found at The Shoppes at the Palazzo. Throughout the incredible growth of ANNIE CREAMCHEESE, Annie remains dedicated to one goal – to bring high end, high quality vintage clothing to discerning consumers. She works tirelessly to find the best fashions for her customers, traveling from L.A. to London and everywhere in between. She is a self-taught vintage style expert that keeps up with the latest trends and fashions. Annie has been featured as a fashion expert on the Discovery Channel’s Pop Nation, and featured in numerous fashion magazines such as 944 Magazine, Washington Life, Washingtonian, InStyle, Vegas Magazine, and the Washington Post. She has met and helped to clothe celebrities and fashion icons such as Nanette Lepore, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, Nicole Ritchie, Jessica Alba, Victoria Beckham, The Pussycat Dolls, Spice Girls, Paris Hilton, Nikki Hilton, Kathy Hilton, the Kardashians, Kirsten Dunst, Carmen Elektra, Joan Rivers, Mya, Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley, Alice Cooper, Lia Neil, and Hayley Williams (Paramore).

Hot Hair Accessories

It’s hot. It’s sticky. It’s total “bad hair” weather. For us, that means a sleek Summer pony, side braids, and our hairdo du jour: the ballerina bun. One shopping trip and a chic, feathery headband later…we were inspired.
Rompers and Jumpsuits: Wear Them This Fall

Written by Lindsey Foley, Personal Stylist

Rompers and jumpsuits are “must-haves” this season, but they aren’t just sizzling for Summer! They can work for your wardrobe well into the Fall. They are light and comfortable and flatter any body type. They are also easy to wear. You can add a great belt to exaggerate your waist area, or throw on a funky scarf to give you nice proportions. Don’t forget to accessorize! Layer a few necklaces, or try some bangles and earrings. Put on a fabulous heel and you are good to go!

When the leaves start to fall, you can wear rompers and jumpsuits with a cropped, short blazer or a leather jacket. Also, a fun, silk scarf is a nice addition.

Where can you get them? I love the rompers from BCBG!

Free People has some wonderful rompers and jumpsuits in materials like chambray, cotton and linen:

Many options from Target and Forever21 are under $20, and have pretty details like pockets and ruffles:

Bloomingdales and Shopbop.com also have a great selection, including geometric and floral prints:

So many rompers and jumpsuits are on sale now. Go get ‘em!

Style Steals: Where To Buy Great Clothes For Less

Written by Vanessa Antonelli of NessaLeeStyle.com

Currently my life is so chaotic that if you were to step into my kitchen, you’d see a stack about 14 inches tall of magazines. Some are still in their unnecessary plastic (Hey Lucky, why do you do that?) and others were last touched by the mailman…a month ago.

Lucky for me, I finally scored myself an hour to look through them and see what I’ve been missing. When I opened my first magazine, I actually had to look at the cover to make sure something from several years ago hadn’t made it into my pile. Then, the next one and the one after that – all the same. I found it frustrating that many magazines aren’t letting the economic crisis play too heavily into the items they’re choosing to feature. $400 sundresses? $600 boots? So, are the magazines telling us that people on a tighter budget can’t have beautiful clothes? Maybe. Is that true? No way! Just recently, I sat down with my own staff to in an effort to devise a plan to bring our customers more economy sensitive, but still fabulously stylish items (insert shameless plug here: coming this fall at www.NessaLeeStyle.com ). Now I’m taking some of my research and sharing it with you!

1. TheLook4Less.net, InTheirCloset.com: Both of these blogs were started by women with a talent for finding a style steal. Often this means they take an as seen on celebrity outfit and link you directly to where to purchase similar and sometimes identical pieces. This comes in extremely handy when those $1000 shoes just don’t fit into the budget. While you’re perusing InTheirCloset, make sure to check out some of my guest posts (yes, another shameless plug).

2. Etsy.com: Etsy is the most glamorous and creative flea market you’ll ever find, but it’s online, which makes it convenient for all. If it’s not one of your most frequented internet stops, it should be. On Etsy you can find any accessory your heart or jewelry box desires and often at a great price. Take for instance this handmade bangle. One of a kind pieces are a gem on their own, but add a piece (even if it’s a teeny tiny itsy bitsy piece) of vintage designer to it and that’s a must have.

3. FredFlare.com, Lulus.com & ShopNastyGal.com: Since this is about affordable fashion, I’m in no way knocking the most famous of the stores to find it: Forever 21. However, I do think it’s important to point out that there are F21 stores everywhere. So it’s no surprise that time and time again I’ve had people tell me that they purchased something there only to be embarrassed when out and about wearing the same item as several other girls. That’s where Fred Flare, Lulus and Shop Nasty Gal come in. All three e-commerce stores stock trendy and fashionable pieces at affordable price points. The major upside is that they aren’t items you see everywhere or on everyone.

I love the shape of this bag from Lulus and neutral colors are perfect for fall, but what I like most is that it’s canvas. Often affordable options have to resort to faux materials to keep their cost down. Canvas is just that – canvas. It isn’t trying to look like anything else.

I chose this skirt from FredFlare because it feels vintage and I find that in my own wardrobe I tire of items slower when they have that vibe because they’re generally less trendy.

This dress from shopnastygal is incredibly feminine, but I immediately pictured taking it down a notch with an olive military style meets windbreaker jacket and a short multi-layer necklace with pearls and light color jewels. When outfits immediately start dancing around in my head, I know a purchase is imminent.

When it comes to deals on wardrobe essentials, I’m all about hitting the Internet. Not only are my favorite stores open 24 hours, I can compare prices quickly, then scoop up my favorites faster than you can say “Sample Sale.” Well, ladies, I just learned something that knocked my virtual socks off! Some days are better than others to save your dollars online! ShopItToMe.com, a site that scours sales at more than 100 online stores, ran a survey revealing the best times to shop for some our favorite things: sunglasses, bathing suits, apparel, you name it! Read on…and your fingers will be on the pulse of the hottest deals. (Literally!)

Lily Allen Drunk During Chanel Interview

Yet, she STILL bagged the job! While meeting with Chanel’s head honcho, Karl Lagerfeld, Lily Allen was completely boozed up. Now, she can’t remember what the pair even talked about.

Lily tells Britain’s Elle magazine:

It was a big party in Paris. I was drunk and got lost in the building. I wandered into an attic room and Karl was there. We had a chat – although I can’t remember what about. I do remember asking about some shoes he’d designed that had a green ring in the heel. I asked how they worked. He drew a diagram explaining the physics of making the shoe – I’ve still got the drawing. A week later I was asked to do the campaign.

In the real world, that would be away to get yourself booted out of the office!

Kardashian Khaos will open on August 21. Kris and her clan have branded it a “celebrity lifestyle boutique.” What does that mean? It’s going to feature gear that the Kardashians own or endorse…plus original designs. Totally different than DASH. Speaking of which…we would love to have a DASH open by us!

What do you guys think about Kardashian Khaos?
