What inspired you to create Vivvos?
I was definitely inspired by the bright vivid colours of the Latin/South American culture. On a holiday I purchased some very vivid underwear and came home and carried them around in my purse for a year showing friends. They definitely supported me and let me know that North American women were more than ready for some fun, sassy underwear. I then spent some time studying the feasibility of manufacturing in Canada as well as sourcing of the fabrics!
Why the question mark in under?wear?
That came about because of my model who started to rock her Vivvos boyshorts outside. Shauna really loved the cut of the boyshorts, and started wearing them as a bottom at a local Vancouver beach. Because they are such perfect travel pieces, the idea of having it all on “underneath” for spontaneous activities started to take root. Vivvos pieces are so sexy and flattering that it is almost a shame to keep them under wraps.
How would you like your line to make women feel?
It’s about an attitude, and a sassy one at that. In Brazil, the women aren’t afraid to bare it all, no matter who’s looking. Daughters and moms alike sport bold and revealing bikinis, all too happy to show off their curves. That confidence is something we wanted for women at home.
What type of fabric is used to create Vivvos?
All the fabrics are meticulously sourced worldwide. The majority of the fabrics come from Italy where they are patented under the “sensitive” name. They are microfibre nylon and lycra warp knit fabrics that are considered high performance. Some of these properties include: easy care, no snagging, moisture management, breathability, no pilling, hold their shape (4 way stretch) , extra softness, and extra light.
What makes Vivvos boyshorts and thongs unique?
What will women love about them? It is just not about the great colours, but the design functionality as well. The waistband eliminates “muffin tops”, and is very slimming. The cut of the boyshorts make you look slimmer rather than the other way around. There are no laces or other little bits that are irritating.. Also they are so comfortable that they feel like you are not wearing anything at all. Runners and yoga aficionadas are loving them for their sports because of the comfort factor. I can’t tell you how many times I hear that “these are the most comfortable underwear I have ever worn.” Fun and functionality!
Why no cotton crotch in the undies?
This knitted fabric is “open” and airy, allowing for natural air circulation between the fibres and thus ensuring freshness and hygiene. Because these pieces dry so quickly, have moisture management qualities and are breathable ( all qualities that cotton does not have,) I did not want to add cotton to the mix. We all know how long cotton takes to dry.
If you could get your line into the hands of any three celebrities, who would you pick and why?
The women that I associate with and very much admire, are all strong, bold, and risk-taking women, within the realm of their chosen sport, activities and work. Vivvos motto or mission statement is “take risks, be bold and true, unleash your sass and Vivvos will have you covered, but only just enough”. A few celebrities that I admire are Lindsey Vonn, American ski racer, for her amazing grit, Beyonce and Shakeera for their bootilicious beauty and Drew Barrymore and Jessica Biel for their wit, “trueness” and sense of humour. They would be perfect Vivvos role models!
What’s up next for Vivvos?
As well as expanding my underwear line, I have also recently associated with Leah Allinger, a professional beach volleyball player. We are designing a swimsuit line that she can wear on tour in the AVP . This is really exciting as the line will again not only be sexy but very functional for other sports as well. In the future watch for other pieces such as tops, because of the sun protection factor of the fabrics. Also a men’s line is being considered as men have definitely let me know they would be interested in underwear that can be under?wear!
